Rumi’s Reflections: Alison Wem’s Journal – Day 12

Everyone is overridden by

thoughts; that’s why

they have so much

heartache and sorrow.

Jalal al-Din Rumi

Having a strong intellect and the ability to reason things through is valued in society. Yet I observe the pressure the school system puts on our young people to ever obtain higher grades. I do wonder if we are robbing them of their childhood. It should be full of natural curiosity and discovery. Yet there is little time at school or perhaps at home to allow this to happen.

As a child, I enjoyed lovely days of ‘messing around in the garden or park’ looking at flowers, plants and insects, building camps and playing with water. Are children still able to regularly do this and come into bed tired and dirty? read more

Empowerment: can spirituality help you?

What do we mean by spirituality? For me, it is about knowing there are two parts to me. Me, the personality who interacts with the world on a day-to-day basis. Me, the soul that is the eternal part of me that has lived many lives and gained some wisdom along the way.

As you explore your own spirituality you increasingly learn to go within where you discover you are never truly alone. It is within you meet your soul and start to get to know them. Perhaps unexpectedly, it is within you that you find strength, love, and support. read more

I want to change my life

Lasting change happens one small step at a time.

What simple change might you choose to make so your life feels more fun or satisfying?

My life can feel very hectic, so I have promised myself I am going to attend a colleague’s mid-week meditation. It is 45 minutes of pure calmness. It is something I do for my soul and me. We love it.

What will your treat be?

Keep it simple. It doesn’t have to cost much either. Suggestions might be a lovely, long hot bath to relax in, a walk in the park alone enjoying observing and feeling nature around you, reading a good book, listening to music. The list can be quite extensive…. read more

Rumi’s Reflections: Alison Wem’s Journal – Day 10

Be like a

TREE

and let the

dead leaves

DROP

Jalal al-Din Rumi

As you develop spiritually, some of the people and things in your life no longer please you. This is alright and as it should be. You have developed and your hopes and wishes have changed with you.

Allow these people to gracefully drop from your life as a dead, autumn leaf gently drops to the ground having served the tree well throughout the summer.

Part with love and all will be well.

Who loves you unconditionally?

Who gives you unconditional love when you need it most?

We all need unconditional love at some point in our lives.

Life can be full of challenges.

When you have lost something or someone you love and value, is when you are most likely to need comfort and support. Perhaps you have lost a child, partner, home, business or a job. All can leave you feeling bereft and upset as if your whole life is falling apart.

Even in adulthood, you can often crave your mum or someone else special whom you loved as you were growing up. From as early as you can remember, your mum was the one who picked you up when you had fallen over. read more
