Friends: 3 characteristics of a good friend

A friendship can strike up quickly between you and another person or it may grow over time.  Both are valid approaches to establishing a friendship.  At some point you will realise they are important to you.  Your relationship may display many of these characteristics;

  • challenge you making the relationship exciting and fun.
  • stay with you through the good times and the sad times.
  • supportive of each other – your hopes, desires and fears.

Often conversation bounces backwards and forwards between you with each of you listening and giving a considered reply.  Good friends love you and can feel as comfortable as an old pair of slippers!

You feel able to ask them for their help and they are there for you if your world comes tumbling down.

Humans are tribal by nature and therefore feel happier and more fulfilled when they have good friends. Plus there is the 150-friend theory. This states that the human brain is hard wired to have up to 150 friends and this dates from early social development. At that time, we typically lived in tribes and traditionally the tribe size was 150 people. The survival reason for being in a tribe is that you are stronger together than apart. It is difficult to know whether the tribes or the brain developed first. However there does seem to be some synergy between the two.

For me, it is not about the quantity of friendships but rather the quality of your relationships read more

How was your lockdown?: chaotic, insightful, challenging….

Here in the UK lockdown has been eased so we can get back to ‘normal’ or perhaps I should say ‘new normal’. The date we started this process was the 4th July. There is a certain irony with this being Independence Day in the US.

How was your lockdown?

Mine was not what I was expecting. I thought I would be happily writing articles, creating and learning to edit videos to share with you. It was quite the opposite. I felt quiet and reflective. Fortunately I am a great believer in meditation so I retreated from the outer world to explore my inner landscape. A common question from my husband is;

Are you meditating?

Periodically I was quite forcefully pulled back to the physical world to manage a builder I had engaged who was not living up to his accountabilities. This enormous contrast between my inner and outer landscape created tensions and emotions yet surprisingly gave me clarity and insight.

I felt the need to validate my feelings and to seek out the purpose of the virus. It is my belief it is not our enemy but is bringing possibilities for change in what we feel is important in our life and how we might choose to live it. I am really sorry for the pain and suffering the virus has brought some people, but grateful humanity is being given a chance to re-consider our future and whether our direction needs adjusting.

To help me with my thoughts, I started an email conversation with my healer and medium friends who are used to exploring their inner landscape to see what they were experiencing.

This conversation gave all of us support and love through friendship. With fear and anxiety all around us it brought messages of hope, inspiration and love. We have collated the conversation along with some beautiful paintings created by our spirit artist, Irene Gloux, into a short FREE ebook. There are many different views and ways of expressing them. No one person has the whole truth but together perhaps we get nearer to it.

Have a read and see whether it resonates with you or whether your experience was quite different. Read here

Hello my spiritual friends

Humanity, of which we are all a part of, is being presented with an opportunity for change – hopefully for the better. Now is a great opportunity for development and healing at the personal, family, community, national and global level.

Yet here we are physically isolated in our homes, unable to share our thoughts, experiences and steer from our own soul or perhaps our guides.

‘Working-from-home’ or not working at all, has slowed the pace of life and given you an opportunity to reflect on what is really important in your life.

Well here goes, let me share my thoughts…..

I am taking sensible precautions with the virus, but I have not felt the fear many are experiencing. I am convinced there is a purpose behind this global pandemic.

I have been given the opportunity to experience fear in the last week. It affected me so much that I could feel my heart beat faster and my breath was fast, short and shallow. I could not stay still and was pacing up and down the hall in my small city flat feeling constrained.

It was not fear of the virus but fear of financial ruin. My income is from rental flats. I have spent the last year renovating them and building a new flat for me in the attic. I have had little income for a year, spent much of my savings and have a large mortgage to service. As we reach completion, we found the builder has made a mistake which he does not acknowledge and Building Control were refusing to issue a certificate enabling me to get some tenants into the flats. I was faced with no cash, empty flats, a builder refusing to take my calls or emails and no resolution until after the lockdown which is who knows when.

Fear is a terrible thing. I realised that even in widowhood I did not experience it. I was well loved and supported by family and friends. It is when you feel you are standing alone that fear is most rampant.

We are constantly bombarded by the media about the coronal virus. There are stories of people dying alone in ICU calling out for their loved ones and families not being able to mourn their lost love ones. For me these stories do not add value but stoke fear and uncertainty. I feel that in all of our interaction with others

hope, healing and change for the better

should be the basis of our conversations. Perhaps if enough of us practise it, it will ripple out to many more people.

My guide is asking me to consider the life lessons my builder is helping me with – defining my boundaries and holding them, communicating with compassion, remaining positive and holding onto hope. All of these are relevant to a locked down world of physical isolation in family units.

Perhaps you can consider what life lessons this new world is helping you to learn…..

College of Psychic Studies – Summer Open Evening

On a hot summer’s evening in London, the College of Psychic Studies held their end of term Open Evening. After a term of hard work, it is an opportunity for consultants, tutors, college personnel past and present, students and potential students to enjoy an evening together. I look forward to these events and the chance to talk with a number of people. For people thinking about starting or extending their studies in psychic development, it is wonderful opportunity to meet like minded people. There is a good programme of demonstrations and sittings. So it is great for trying out different disciplines of psychic studies including tarot, palmistry, psychic mediumship, angel cards, healing…..

Lesley Price, college librarian, was manning the second hand book stall. He had a good array of books for sale and can talk knowledgeably about them. I always have a good look through and usually find I book I am attracted to.

My friend David is usually helping out on the book stall but is unfortunately in hospital at the moment. Get well soon David. We all missed you.

This is the book I bought. It is a fictional story about a young man who becomes an Initiate in the pyramids of ancient Egypt. I am interested in this period of history at the moment. It is such a long period that many of us have lived a past life in ancient Egypt. I want to learn more about the period without having to read rather dry reference books. Lesley advised me that this book contains good factual content and is good read. Just what I need for the summer break.

My contribution to the evening is to give a psychic mediumship reading. I had a wonderful young sitter. We were allocated to my favourite room that has a wonderful series of pictures. The article picture is my favourite one. Here is the next picture I was attracted to. I love the colours and the subject matter is reminiscent of my soul maps. What do your think? Do post a comment on your thoughts.

Gerrie March, internationally renown psychic medium, was giving a demonstration. I could not miss the opportunity to watch her. There is much to be learnt from this lady. In addition to her wonderful fluency in providing messages, the manner in which she presents the information is something to aspire to. Thank you Gerrie.

Martha Brett, College accredited healer and energy tutor, was manning the stall displaying the raffle prizes and selling tickets. I bought some tickets but sadly was not lucky enough to win one of the bundles of books, angel packs and other exciting items.

Valerie Pitts, college tutor for crystals to aid health and well-being, was manning the crystal stall. I love crystals and scrying is a favourite way in which I receive messages. I recently attended Valerie’s introductory course. She has a great array of crystals and immense knowledge in how you should work with and cared for them.

I could not resist taking a photo of the lovely crystals she had on her stall. I took away with me a beautiful blue necklace that kept calling out to me ‘buy me!’. Blue is for communication and this particular crystal is for knowledge and wisdom. It seemed to go with my book on ancient Egyptian knowledge so I put them together. Take a look at the picture of the book and you will see the necklace. They blend well together. Did you notice the necklace earlier?

Missed the evening, you can get Valerie’s crystals here.
